Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, (WRAPA) is a registered non- governmental, non-political, non-profit charitable membership organization founded in 1999. WRAPA, a focused non-governmental organization whose mission is actualizing the legal rights of women in private and public spaces. WRAPA envisions a Nigeria where there is improved access to social justice for women.
WRAPA a right-based organization with special focus on the rights of women and children. provides legal aid services across all three legal systems in Nigeria; Common law, Customary and Shari’a laws that assists women to access or defend their rights, particularly the indigent and vulnerable. One of WRAPAs core values and mandate as an organization, is social justice for women. It goes further to show the enormous work saddled with the Legal unit, being the central theme of the organisation’s mandate. WRAPA has gained recognition for its effect legal aid and counseling services.

SERVICES WE RENDER

Our legal unit, handles both Criminal and Civil Cases in Court. The unit also administers reconciliatory processes between couples that have internal wrangling in their marriage, seeking to reconcile were expedient. This is without infringing on mutual rights and willingness to re-unite with their family. Other services to women include:

1. Legal aid services to protect women and girls from Harmful practices relating to disinheritance and dehumanizing traditional practices.
2. Promoting girls’/women’s human rights; Civil Rights such as education, employment, tenancy/contracts, political representation/participation.
3. Mediation/reconciliatory procedures for Matrimonial issues of forced marriages, maintenance, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, divorce, and custody.
4. Empowerment, Humanitarian/material assistance, adult literacy, civic education programs and skills training for economic empowerment.
5. Legislative advocacy targeted at the promotion of women’s rights.
