Marriage is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. Many of the challenges faced in marriages today could have been avoided with adequate premarital counselling.

One of the major problems facing our society today, is the high rate of divorce and increasing numbers of failed and failing marriages. Whereas efforts are underway in various states in the North to use Hisbah boards for counselling and reconciliation, a major gap in education, is pre-marital counselling. In most cases, by the time the marriage contract has been entered into, it is too late. Unlike churches, which have a long-established tradition of guidance and counselling for intending couples, we Muslims have not paid sufficient attention to this critical area.

Marriage is a very precious gift, especially when the couple endeavor to see it as an act of obedience to the Almighty. However, where couples aren’t prepared with the necessary skills to stay married, situations could occur that affect their emotional state, thereby driving them apart. Working with Sis. Maryam Lemu in the run-up to the launch of the Marriage Academy has given me greater insight to some of the pre and post marital challenges couples face, which the innovative platform she has created hopes to address.
I hereby endorse this laudable program developed by a very dedicated Da’iyah who desires to preserve the Love, Passion, Spontaneity, Fun and Understanding married couples should seek to achieve in their relationship.
